Flag holder thefts hinder Memorial Day tradition

In preparation for Memorial Day flags were placed Monday at St. John’s, Oakwood, St. Mary of the Lake and Lakewood Cemeteries in Lake City.

Over 400 flags were placed for veterans and auxiliary members. VFW Post 8729 furnishes the flags and markers.

Volunteers were: Duane Schafer and Auxiliary Members: Marcella Hoffman, Nancy Banks, Loa Baker, Karen Bremer, Betsy White, Tammy Anderson, Norita Stoltzman and Faye Brown.

There were several rods stolen last year which makes it difficult to place all the flags.
