Public library reopens with new policies

The Lake City Public Library is reopening Thursday, May 21, (today) after an extended closure due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Several patron policies have been instituted to comply with state guidance and for patron and staff safety, according to the reopening announcement:

• A maximum of 10 people are allowed in the library at one time.

• Patron visits are limited to 15 minutes or less.

• All visitors are required to wear masks to enter the library.

• Visitors must sanitize their hands or wear gloves. Sanitizer is available at the library entrance.

• Library computers will be available on a limited basis for 30-minute sessions.

• Adherence to state-mandated six-foot social distancing is required.

For now, there will be no lounging areas, public restrooms, meeting rooms, drinking fountains, or newspapers for public use.

To protect patrons, the library will be taking the following steps:

• All returned materials are sanitized and quarantined for 24 hours.

• Staff will routinely disinfect all high-touch surfaces.

• Staff will disinfect all computers after each use.

• The library will continue to provide curb-side service for people who prefer to limit their public exposure.
