Public school paraprofessionals form union

Paraprofessionals working for Lake City Public Schools have formed a union.

According to Minnesota Educator, the magazine of the state education professionals union Education Minnesota, 90 percent of the district’s 24 paraprofessionals signed authorization cards in support of unionization.

“With COVID, we felt like we were on the short end of the stick. And we found ourselves without jobs. We showed up every day, but we weren’t given a choice in our jobs,” Michelle Seydel, one of the organizers, is reported as saying.
