Cindy Whitcomb obituary
Cindy Reichert Whitcomb of Lake City, Minn. passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2025, following a brief illness, surrounded in the love of her family. Born Cynthia Marie Reichert on November 5, 1956, in St. Louis, Mo. to Lawrence and Agnes (Abel) Reichert, she was baptized into the faith on December 2, 1956. She graduated from McClure North High School in 1975 and worked as the Administrative Assistant for the national sales manager of Memorex Computer Supplies and as secretary at Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, Ill. She married Bruce D. Whitcomb on February 17, 1990, at Our Lord’s Lutheran Church in Maryville, Ill.
Cindy will be remembered for her compassion and faithful service: Care provider for Stephen Ministry, leader of the Kitchen Committee that hosted innumerable meals and events, food services for Habitat for Humanity blitz build in East St. Louis, church council member, spiritual gifts workshop leader, member of the Methodist quilters, and co-leader of Chicks with Sticks. One of her favorite and most impactful ministries was her committed volunteerism for the Village of the Blue Rose, a community for adults with development and intellectual disabilities.
Cindy was an artist and avid crafter. Her mediums included quilting, knitting, sewing doll clothes, jewelry, purses, wind chimes and sun catchers. She was an accomplished basket weaver and had her own copyrighted designs. She generously shared her creations with those she loved and enjoyed teaching others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Jeanette (Reichert) Effinger, Lawrence Reichert, Irvin Reichert, Michael Reichert, Nancy (Reichert) Black, and Thomas Reichert.
Cindy is survived by her husband Bruce, son Marshall Whitcomb, brothers James Reichert and Daniel Reichert, sister Debra (Reichert) Gebhardt, numerous nieces and nephews, and many special friends who loved her like family.
A celebration of life will be held for Cindy at First Lutheran Church, Lake City, Minn. on Sept. 27, 2025, visitation at 1 p.m. and memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Lung Association.
