Cynthia "Cindy" Strauss Obitiuary

    A memorial service for Cynthia “Cindy” O’Hara Strauss, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20,  2017 at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City with Pastor Duane Holst officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellechester in the spring.  
    Mrs. Strauss, 64, of Rochester and formerly of Zumbro Falls, Oronoco, and Lake City, passed away at her home in Rochester on Friday, Jan. 6.
    Cindy was born on April 24, 1952 to Douglas O’Hara, Sr. and Margaret Bates.  Cindy was a descendant of the Wabasha County O’Hara’s who homesteaded and still own the original farmstead.  She attended elementary school at McKinley and Ascension School’s in Minneapolis, St. Margaret’s High School in Minneapolis, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1970.  Cindy married Marvin Strauss on Sept. 7, 1974 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bellechester.  After their marriage they lived in Oronoco.  Cindy furthered her education and received her registered nurse degree from Rochester Community and Technical College in 1977, and later her master’s degree from Concordia College. In 2001 the Strauss’ moved to Lake City.  In August 2016 she moved to Rochester.
    Cindy was employed by Mayo Clinic in Rochester for 35 years, retiring in 2012.  She was employed in the Blood Bank as supervisor and was a senior systems analyst.
    Cindy is survived by her two children, Nicolas (Ingrid) Strauss of St. Paul and Catharine (Nicholas Weininger) Strauss of San Francisco; four grandchildren, Nina, George, Arthur and Lewis; her mother, Margaret Bates of Lake City; three sisters, Susan O’Hara of Rochester, Kathy (Rick) Smith of Wadena, and Caroline (Tim Brantner) O’Hara of Northfield; two brothers, Doug (Pam) O’Hara and Evan Scott (Sara) O’Hara, both of Zumbro Falls; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father, step-mother Dorothy, and her husband.
    Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
