Elaine Halpaus Obituary

Elaine Halpaus, 77, of Northfield, Minn., formerly of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community.
    Elaine Marie Plank Halpaus was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Wabasha to Herbert and Delores (Eastman) Plank.  She was raised on a farm near Lake City and attended country school. Following her education she stayed at home and helped her mother raise the family. On Nov. 30, 1968, Elaine married Eugene Halpaus.  They later divorced.  Elaine remained in Lake City until moving to Northfield in 2015.
    Elaine enjoyed baking, playing cards, crafts, camping, puzzles, animals, and just being active.  She was kind, caring, friendly, feisty and loved her family dearly.
    Survivors include her son, Michael (Paula) Plank of Northfield; three grandchildren, Bradley (Amanda) Plank of Appleton, Wis., Matthew (Mandy Kremer) Plank  of Northfield and Megan (Josh) Keppers of Northfield; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Benjamin, Christian and Luca;  five sisters, Nancy O’Flaherty of Wabasha, Shirley Meincke, Sharon (Robert) Henning and Kathy Roberts, all of Lake City and Charlotte Plank of Northfield; four brothers, Raymond Plank and John (Janet) Plank, both of Lake City, James Plank of Kasson and Ron (Sue) Plank of Northfield. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marilyn Plank and Carol Plank of Lake City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ellen, Lois, Virginia and Dorothy, and four brothers, Marvin, Eugene, Kenny and Francis.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at First United Church of Christ in Northfield.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  A reception will follow.
