Elaine Wurst obituary

Elaine Wurst, 92, of Lake City, passed away on Jan. 4, 2021 at her home.
Elaine was born on Sept. 3, 1928 in Plainview to Edwin & Emma (Welti) Martin, she graduated from Plainview High School in 1946. She worked at the Federated Store in Plainview before her marriage to Maurice Wurst on Oct. 1, 1948 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. They lived and farmed in Florence Township in Goodhue County where they raised their six children. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frontenac. She served as treasurer on the Florence Town Board for 27 years, was a Lifetime Member of the Lake City VFW Auxiliary Post 8729. Elaine was also a member of the Merry Mixers neighborhood club and bowled on a league for many years. Her passion was playing cards, embroidery, sewing doll clothes, crocheting, net darning and cooking for her family and friends. She adored her 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren (with another due in May).
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Connie (Al) Settle of Lake City; three sons, Kenneth (Susan) Wurst of Roseville, Minn., John (Diane) Wurst of Lake City, Minn., Allen Wurst of Frontenac, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Donna Wurst of Lake City, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Steven (Jody) Wurst, sons Benjamin and Jonah; Michelle (Daniel) Sjobeck, daughters Emily and Lauren; Shane (Deborah) Wurst; Cory (Nikki) Wurst, children Morgan and Ethan; Carrie (Josh) Kohrs, daughters Bailee, Mya, and Ella Kate; Hilary (Nolan) Lamb, sons Trevor and Micah; Laura Settle; Blake (Erin) Settle, children Miles, Autumn, and Claira; Jacob Wurst; and Kaitlin (Eric) Altermatt, (Baby Altermatt due in May); sister-in-laws Mary Martin of Dunnellon, Fla., and Joan Buske of Rochester, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Wurst in 2006; two sons, Daryl and Scott; grandson, Michael Settle; two sisters, Donna Mae (Maurice) Searles and Earlene (Luverne) Asleson; one brother, Louis John Martin; brother-in-laws Robert (Ardelle), Howard (Joanne), Arnold (Arlene), Willis (Rosie), and Gilbert Wurst; sister-in-law Bertha (Willard) Niederhauser.
A private service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Frontenac with Reverend Allen Horn officiating. A walk-through visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson - Peterson Chapel Lake City. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. The service will be live streamed on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook Page. Masks and social distancing are required.
