Glenn Dwelle Sr. Obituary

Glenn J. Dwelle, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 in Lake City.
    Born to Joseph M. and A. Linnea (Johnson) Dwelle on Dec. 26, 1929 in Lake City, Glenn grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School. He began working for his grandfather, Glenn M. Dwelle at the Dwelle Telephone Company when he was 17 years old. He continued with the telephone company for 28 years. He was district manager of southeastern Minnesota for United Telephone Company when he left in 1973 to become the owner of the new Coast-to-Coast store in Lake City. Together with his wife Angie, they operated the Coast-to-Coast store for 21 years before retiring in 1994.  
    On Sept. 20, 1950, he married Angeline Mary Oelkers at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. Together they built a life in Lake City raising their six children. He was an active member of the community, serving on numerous boards and commissions including the Lake City Hospital Board; Lake City Federal Savings and Loan Association, serving as chairman of the board for many years; Lake City Water and Light Board; Lake City Planning Commission; Lake City Kiwanis; Lake City City Council; and Lake City Industrial Development Corporation.
    Glenn was an active outdoorsman, and his love of pheasant hunting and bird dogs was known by everyone who visited the Coast-to-Coast store only to be greeted by one of his many Brittany Spaniels. He shared his love of hunting with his friends, sons and grandsons on numerous trips to southern Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota.
    Glenn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Angie; five sons, Glenn J. (Bonnie) Dwelle, Jr., Thomas (Rita) Dwelle and Patrick (Lisa) Dwelle, all of Lake City, Bruce (Roberta) Dwelle of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Richard (Mary) Dwelle of Vacaville, Calif.; and one daughter, Mary (Dan) Coyle of Lake City. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and Lady Ann, his Brittany for the past 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and A. Linnea Dwelle, and his sister, Betty A. Klennert.
    A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, First Lutheran Church, or St. Croix Hospice.
