Howard Kennedy obituary

Howard C. Kennedy, 92, of Zumbro Falls, Minn., passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, with his loving wife and family by his side at Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Hospital.  
Howard was born August 7, 1932, in Gillford Township, Wabasha County to John and Esther (Betcher) Kennedy. He grew up in the Zumbro Falls area and graduated from Lake City High School. Afterwards he attended Fargo Mechanic School, worked for Allen Trucking, married Henrietta and later divorced. He was employed by Johnson Pontiac in 1957, a year later he started his own garage and implement business in Hammond.  In 1960 he started selling and working on Allis Chalmers in his own shop. He later purchased school buses from Walt Kriett and provided service for Rochester and Lake City schools. Howard later went on to purchase his first motorcoach thus establishing Kennedy Coaches, operating for 23 years.
In November of 1989, Howard married Barbara (Larsson) Kennedy, wife of 35 years.  As a skilled mechanic, welder, and machinist, Howard was able to fabricate and repair a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment.
Howard is survived by his children, Marilyn (Mike) Wiebusch of Rochester, Tim (Pam) Kennedy of Zumbro Falls, stepdaughter Christen (Roger) Archer of Lake City, stepson Kyle (Sarah) Muenkel of Zumbro Falls; eight grandchildren, John Wiebusch, Mandy Kurth, Sarah Blakstad, Christopher Kennedy, Cole Muenkel, McKenna Meyer, Kylin and Kale Muenkel; and eight great grandchildren.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
Known for his engaging stories, which blended wisdom and humor, Howard enjoyed many hobbies such as flying planes, fishing, hunting, and motorcycling. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his wife and family, whether at their cabin in Longville, Minn., or enjoying winters in Alamo, Texas. His family will deeply value the stories he shared.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Pastor Allen Horn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m.  A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.
