Lowell "Babe" TerBorch Obitiary

    Lowell “Babe” TerBorch, 91, of Lake City, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center.
    He was born April 13, 1926 to Fred and Elsie (Newman) TerBorch. He grew up in Lake City and attended Lincoln High School. Just three days after graduating from high school he left home to serve in the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Lake City where he was welcomed home by his future wife, Barbara Ann Johnson. The couple was married on July 17, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City.
    Babe worked for USPS for many years until he retired at the age of 55. He was also a bookkeeper for Herron Chevrolet and Diepenbrock Oil Company. He was the manager at the Lake City Country Club and also served as its president for a time. He also served on the board of directors at Lake City Federal Savings and Loan. He volunteered his time in a number of ways, including as a member of the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department and for SCORE in Lake City. Babe was also a lifetime member of Kiwanis, the Lake City Lions Club and was a member of the American Legion for more than 70 years. He served as an elder at Bethany Lutheran Church and also delivered Meals-on-Wheels for many years.
    In his free time, he enjoyed playing bridge, and watching sports on TV. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf.
    He is survived by his daughter, Teri (Robert) Perez of Rochester; two grandchildren, Nicholas Perez and Stefanie (Gordon Bradbury) Perez. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Barbara; three brothers, Lester, Vernon and LeRoy.
    Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Fred Morck officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110.
