Margaret Beckmann Obituary
The funeral service for Margaret Beckmann will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Bear Valley in rural Mazeppa, with Pastor Alan Horn officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Beckmann, 80, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center in Lake City.
Margaret Mamie Halpaus was born Sept. 16, 1935 in Red Wing to William and Evelyn (Kufuss) Halpaus. She grew up in the Millville area and attended Millville Schools. On April 23, 1953 she married Ray Pahl at South Troy Church they lived near Mazeppa and had three children, Ray died on June 29, 1990. Margaret married Martin Beckmann on June 30, 1991 and moved to Lake City, Martin died on July 10, 2009.
Margaret was employed near Red Wing making phonograph boxes, and cooked at the Neptune Bar and Restaurant in Zumbro Falls. For 17 years she was employed by ‘Decora’ making kitchen cabinets in Zumbrota. For many years she was a breakfast cook at River Oak Health Care Center in Lake City, retiring in April of 2009.
Margaret enjoyed working in both her vegetable and flower gardens and canning the produce for her family. She loved to cook, bake and to prepare meals for her family and spending time with them. Margaret liked watching the birds, and loved to go fishing. Margaret was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church – Bear Valley.
Margaret is survived by her children, Cathy Buck of Owatonna, Robert Pahl of Mazeppa, and Jerry (Marilyn) Pahl of Zumbro Falls; four step-daughters, and two step-sons; 10 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Brown of Red Wing and Erna (Jim) Davidson of Dexter, N.Y.; four brothers, Charlie Halpaus of Wabasha, Eugene Halpaus of Lake City, Hilbert Halpaus of Goodhue, and William Halpaus of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, first husband, Ray Pahl, and her second husband, Martin Beckmann, and one step-son.
Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 1, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
