Margaret Hoffman Obituary

Margaret Hoffman’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease ended peacefully on Saturday Sept. 9, 2017 at Cottagewood Assisted Living in Rochester.
    Margaret was born April 13, 1929 in Lake City to William and Gertrude (Funk) Elwood. She graduated from McCahill Institute, the Catholic school in Lake City. She worked at Gillett and Eaton in Lake City as a secretary. On July 5, 1954 she married Donald Hoffman of Red Wing. After marriage she worked as a secretary for the Minnesota State Patrol in Rochester. Upon the birth of her first child she became a full time home maker.
    Together they had four children, William (Ann Beauseigneur)  of Rochester, Daniel (Lillian) of Little Rock, Ark., Deborah Hoffman of Rochester, Jennifer (Roy Lovejoy) of Rochester. They have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Margaret was a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Rochester and sang in the choir for many years. She volunteered at St. Francis School in the library and as a Cub Scout den mother. Margaret was a fantastic cook and home maker.
    She enjoyed traveling with business companions, traveling the world with Don, and spending time in her hometown of Lake City at their summer home with family. She also enjoyed going to the Minnesota State Fair and stock car races.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her infant brother; her parents; and a grandson.
    Visitation will be at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at St. Francis of Assisi Church with Rev. Msgr. Thomas Cook officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
    In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to St. Francis of Assisi Church or Lourdes High School.
