Robert Hoops obituary

Robert Emory Hoops, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Gundersen St. Elizabeth’s Care Center in Wabasha, Minnesota.
Bob was born on February 20, 1943 to Emory and Catherine (Coltenbaugh) Hoops in Lake City, Minnesota. He graduated from Wabasha High School in 1961. He married Jeanette Siewert on September 30, 1967 in Lake City, Minnesota. They raised two daughters, Jodi and Kathi.
He served in the Army Reserve from 1963-1969 as an Auto Maintenance Serviceman. His hands built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and farming. Throughout his life and in addition to working on the farm, Bob was employed at the Zumbrota Sales Barn, Heat-N-Glo, and PEM School District.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time watching his granddaughters’ school events and always had a bag of popcorn in hand. He enjoyed gardening and giving away the harvest, playing cards, drinking Schmidt beer with friends, feeding the critters and birds on his deck, and spending time with his family. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 110, Lake City Sportsman’s Club, and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jeanette; daughters Jodi (Steve) Heitman and Kathi (Troy) Hoops-Soden; sister, Bonnie Dohrn; granddaughters Tiffanie Hoops (Kyle Pulsifer), Elizabeth (Gabe) Schulz, Laura (Logan) Quam, Callie Soden, and Emily Heitman; great-grandchildren Juliette and Hudson Schulz and Nolan Quam. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Robbert officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake City followed by a meal in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran School.
