Howard one step closer to national spelling bee

Lincoln High School eighth grade student Alex Howard has qualified for the regional final spelling bee, the last step before the national bee.

Howard and fellow eighth Addie Greer both competed in theregional semi-final spelling bee on Monday, Feb. 11.

Howard finished fifth out of 37 contestants. Greer made it into the third round and the top 20.

With his top-six finish, Howard qualified for the regional spelling bee finals on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Howard was upended on the word “detente” in his quest to be the semi-final champion.
