Dori Schmauss turns 98
Cars lined up for blocks on High Street as they waited their turn to wish Dori Schmauss of Lake City a happy 98th birthday Sunday. Schmauss was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Afterward she began a career in social work. In 1972 she spent several months in Vietnam during the war working with children and orphans there. Schmauss is pictured at center above with daughter Judy Siebenaler (right) and granddaughter Jowelle Henning (left). Below, the Rev. Barb Mathias of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church makes the sign of the cross after reciting a prayer for Schmauss.
