Council looks at allowing side-by-side ATVs in Lake City

Class 2 all terrain vehicles (also known as side-by-sides or utility terrain vehicles) could soon be street legal in Lake City.

The Lake City City Council Monday voted to waive a first reading of an ordinance change that would allow the vehicles on the same city streets that golf carts are allowed to travel. It could enact the ordinance at a future meeting.

Like golf carts, the UTVs would need to have a permit displayed and would be prohibited from driving on the trunk highways and on most downtown streets.
