Mayor: Tax spikes due to property valuations

The Dec. 14 Lake City City Council meeting turned into a clinic on property taxation, but the news wasn’t good for three property owners who had questions about why their taxes went up.

The tax discussions were part of the council’s annual truth in taxation hearing. It was held as part of the regular monthly council meeting.

The hearing cleared the way for the council to set the property tax levy for next year and give final approval to the 2016 budget.
