Saturday was an ice day for many

What began with a text message late last week resulted in an ice rink on Lake Pepin that was still in use Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Along the way the rink was the site of a skating party Saturday, Jan. 2, that attracted a few hundred people over the course of a few hours for skating, music, an outdoor firepit on the beach, and hot cocoa.

Dan Coyle, one of the people involved, said Mark Nichols and Justin Hawryluk sent out a message to about half a dozen people looking for volunteers to help create a rink Friday for a Saturday skating party.
