Our 2021 deer hunt saw 46 hunters in the park on November 20-21, who harvested a total of 25 deer. The slightly-lower-than-average take was likely due to poor weather, with it being warm enough on Saturday for the deer to just bed down and super windy on Sunday. Thankfully, no chronic wasting disease was found in any of the deer sampled from the park. We are planning on holding another deer hunt this year, the tentative date being November 19-20.
 We saw a total of 216,675 visitors in the park in 2021. This is a 20% decline from 2020, but still represents about a 50% increase in usership from pre-Covid years, and I expect this increased usage to continue. Our camping use was down this year due to the closure of the drive-in campground during the week; we saw 13,655 campers this past year, which is down 25-30% relative to the previous few years (we saw between 17.5k and 19.5k between 2017-2020)
 Our brand new bathroom building in the campground was supposed to be completed in October 2021, but due to some unforeseen delays (supply chain issues, primarily), we are now looking at a late spring or early summer completion. The building exterior is mostly completed and landscaped, and in the campground, three brand new vault toilets have been installed and four campsites have been made ADA compatible.
 The park acquired 165 acres across Hill Avenue from the park office in 2020. We completed our assessment of the new property and our park plan amendment was approved in early 2022, so we will begin the development of the new property this year, which will hopefully include a new day use area with a picnic shelter, new trails, overlooks, hike-in campsites, and interpretive opportunities. A copy of the plan amendment for the new property is available on the DNR website for anyone interested.
 Our friends group, the Frontenac State Park Association (FSPA) assisted the park in the installation of a new nature play area in the picnic area, one of only a few nature play areas in the state park system. It is great fun for kids of all ages! The FSPA also commissioned a local artist from Red Wing to do some paintings of the park, which will be on display in the ranger station later this year.
 Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has hit the park in full force. We are undertaking the removal of 200+ mature ash trees throughout the campground and picnic area which were taken by EAB.
 We were able to do prescribed burns on over 500 acres of the park this year.
