Historical society invites people to share local history
The Underground Railroad and an outlaw’s firearm were among the hot topics at last week’s Open Hours at the Lake City Historical Society.
Board member Bill Stiene and others opened up the archives for three researchers from Frontenac, Red Wing and Whitewater State Park who are seeking information and more importantly, stories about the operation of the Underground Railroad that gave runaway slaves a path to freedom prior to the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863.
