74 Lake City middle school band students participate in inaugural solo festival

On May 25, 74 Lake City band students in grades six through nine participated in the first-ever Junior High Solo Festival at Lincoln High School.

Each student performed a solo—or two, in the case of percussionists—for judges who gave them feedback and rated their performance.

The format is patterned after the Minnesota State High School League sanctioned solo and ensemble competitions open to students in grades 10 through 12.

Solos were already part of the lesson curriculum for band students.
