Ice is a busy place, while it lasts

A temperature swing of more than 50 degrees has jump-started snow melt around Lake City and lured people outdoors following a cold snap where temperatures plunged below zero.

The Lake Pepin ice was a popular spot over the weekend, with people skating, flying kites, fishing, tubing and even building a snowman.

Ice boats expected

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers isn’t the only group monitoring the ice on Lake Pepin. Ice boaters have as well, and they plan to take advantage of favorable conditions this weekend.
