Marian Dittfach Obituary
Marian Lea Dittfach, 73, of Lake City, Minn. passed away suddenly on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Gunderson Health Systems – Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin with complications from a new cancer diagnosis.
Marian was born April 8, 1951, in Lake City, Minnesota to Gustav “Robert” and Dolores (Grobe) Timm. She attended school in Millville, St. John’s Lutheran School in Lake City and graduated from Elgin – Millville High School in Elgin, Minnesota in 1969. She went on to attend Rochester Community College to get a Secretarial Science Degree. On March 13, 1971, she married David Dittfach at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City, making their home in the Oak Center area, they celebrated 54 years of marriage this year.
Marian’s life was centered on her faith and family. Whether following her children and grandchildren in their activities or gathering the family around meals and holidays, Marian was always the happiest when she was doing something for her family. Her caretaking extended to her passion as a daycare provider which she did for 50+ years. It was hard to travel anywhere with Marian without running into someone she knew, many of whom were her “kids” from day care.
Marian also loved her church family and volunteered her time in many ways including teaching the Sunday School preschool class. In addition, Marian was active in the Zumbro Falls Lioness Club, Millville Legion Auxiliary Post #579, serving on the Community Education Board for Lake City, and served as a 4-H Leader for many years. Other hobbies included quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning the produce from her gardens, woodworking, spending time reading, and having coffee with her Saturday morning group.
Marian is survived by her loving husband, David Dittfach of Lake City; children, Jennifer Dittfach of Bloomington, Indiana, Julie (Nick) Graupe of Lino Lakes, James Dittfach of Monticello, Jonathon (Amanda) Dittfach of Lake City, and Jeffry (Heidi) Dittfach of Lake City; grandchildren, Riley, Lily, Ella, Erin, Hannah, Emma, and Asher; brother, Gary (Jane) Timm of Millville; as well as her brother-in-law, Steve Lovejoy, and sisters-in-law, Sue (Michael) Bunnell, Bonnie (Denny) Munkberg, Sara (Robert) Bedtke, Betty (Richard) Steffenhagen, and Dana (Galyn) Grad; nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss her bright smile.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, sister-in-law, Darla Lovejoy, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Angie Dittfach.
The funeral service for Marian will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Kary Jonas officiating. The burial will be in the Millville Cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
