The story of Rest Island Silver Fox Farms began with W. A. Hostetler of Millville, Minn., who dug out a red fox den and captured a litter of six red fox pups in June of 1911. Hostetler kept a pair for himself and gave the other four to friends, one of whom was Arthur Schleicher (1891-1964). This particular pair are said to have grown into splendid specimens under Schleicher’s care, and it was from then on he grew both a passion and talent for raising foxes.
