Local Lore: Country schools - Part I
To say there have been a lot of rural schools in this area is an understatement (there were around 100 school districts in Wabasha County alone at one time), and trying to cover them all would be impossible, especially given that information on many has been lost. However, through the help of Dr. Becky Houghton, resources from the Lake City Historical Society, longtime County Superintendent Verma Olin’s book on country schools in Wabasha County, and, as always, the Graphic archives, I will do my best to either cover or at the very least mention the rural districts that have since consolidated with Lake City (along with a few extra if enough information presents itself), over the coming weeks.
