Dustin Olson Obituary

Dustin A. Olson, 43, of Nelson, Wis., formerly of Wabasha and earlier of Houston, Minn., died at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017.  
    He was born Feb. 14, 1974 in La Crosse, Wis., to Daryl and Clara (Zibrowski) Olson.  Dustin was a 1992 graduate of Houston High School.  He furthered his education at Winona Technical College.  He was employed for the past 23 years at Federal-Mogul in Lake City, working as a maintenance electrician.  Earlier while living in Houston he was an EMT for the Houston Ambulance. He married Heather Lauden Feb. 17, 1995 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City.  They just recently divorced.
    Dustin was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, trapping and looking for elusive morel mushrooms and ginseng.  In high school he was heavily involved with the Houston wrestling program.  In the recent summers he helped coach in the Wabasha youth baseball program.  His greatest joy was spending time with his boys outdoors and attending their sporting events.
    He is survived by his former wife, Heather Olson, Wabasha; their three sons, Trenton, Kaleb and Wyatt Olson, all at home in Wabasha; mother and step-father, Clara and Jeff Post, Houston; sisters, Wendy (Jon) Meyer, Lake City and Kari (Rick) Skifton, Zumbro Falls; nieces and nephews, Justine and Alex Kurth and Karl Meyer, Shelby (Brandon) Meincke, Bailey (Austin) Gilles, Luke and Madyson Skifton; one great-nephew, Milton Meincke; paternal grandmother, Lucille Olson, Rushford, Minn.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Daryl Olson, maternal grandparents, Harold and Phyllis Zibrowski, paternal grandfather, Adolph Olson, nephew, Dawson Skifton, niece, Nora Meyer, sister-in-law, Tami Ziegler, special friend, John Ott and his beloved dog, Jake.
    A memorial mass will be Monday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Rev. Fr. Gregory Parrott officiating.  Interment will be at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Hokah, Minn.  Honorary bearers are Troy May, Pete Schaffer, Paulie Patneaude, Jimmy Reinhardt and Rick and Luke Skifton.  Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church on Monday one hour before the mass.
