Frederick Burfeind Obituary

    Frederick "Fritz" J. Burfeind, 76, of Grand Rapids, Minn., passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 28, 2017 while surrounded by family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
    Fritz was known by all friends and family as a kind and caring man. Whenever one asked him how he was, he always replied with “Fantatic!”
    He grew up in Lake City and attended Lincoln High School. Fritz served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an accomplished finish carpenter and a member of the American Legion (Wabasha), and the Minnewawa Sportsman’s Club.   He loved playing bean bags, bocce ball, and taking his boat rides on Lake Minnewawa and Lake Pokegama.
    He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; children, Lisa (Don) Paal, Rick (Chris) Burfeind, Christa (Paul) Schjenken; stepchildren, Dawn Savage, Paula (Steve) Dolney, Teresa (Steve) King; nine grandchildren, Justin, Ryan and Jacob Paal, Dustin and Alyssa Burfeind, Brennen (Amanda) Dulon, Austin (Jenna) Savage, Dylan Dolney, Lacey (Axl) King; two great-grandchildren, Camden and Areya; brothers, Jim (Helen) Burfeind of Wabasha and Harold (Barbara) Burfeind and Edward (Judy) Burfeind, both of Lake City; sister, Kathleen Burfeind;   and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Francis (Lichtblau) Burfeind; infant brother, Dallas; two sisters, Bertha Burfeind and Amelia Schafer; two brothers, John and Elward Burfeind.
    Fritz was an honorable caring man who will be missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered fondly for his kindness and generosity and loving spirit.
    A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
