Highway 63 north of Rochester reopens

Highway 63 between the north Rochester roundabout and Zumbro Falls is open to traffic after crews completed a concrete paving project ahead of schedule, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
During this $6.9 million project, crews removed a portion of the existing blacktop and paved over it with five inches of concrete with reinforcing fibers. The process is referred to as a “whitetopping.” Workers also added guardrail, centerline mumble strips and replaced several pipes and culverts.
Croell, Inc., of New Hampton, Iowa, was the prime contractor.
