Brian is survived by his son, Gunnar Joe Rude of Casa Grande, Ariz.; his mother, Joyce (Joel) Johnson of New Ulm; father, Nick (Jo) Rude of Castle Rock, Colo.; grandmother, Clarice (Orvin) Burnside of Arden Hills; sister, Rachel Rude and her son, Isak of New Ulm; brothers, Joel Rude of St. Michael, Eric Rude of San Diego, Calif.; stepsister, Abby (Eric) Swenson of St. Michael; stepbrothers, Kyle Johnson of Mankato; Alan (Melissa) Butterfield of Culpeper, Va., Mike (Jeanise) Butterfield of Columbia, Mo., Scott (Christy) Butterfield of Hudson, Wis. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Gerry Lillegard, and Orvis Rude.
Brian Paul Rude was born Aug. 11, 1984 in Madison, Wis. to Nick and Joyce (Lillegard) Rude.  He attended St. Croix Lutheran High School and Monticello High School and later attained his GED.  After his schooling, he moved to New Mexico where he worked as a GPS technician for ESC.  Brian enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2004.  After his time in the service, Brian moved to Idaho where he worked at Davey Resources in GPS data collection, and the Dairy Depot as a convenience store clerk.  Brian eventually moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family.  While in Minnesota he worked at Kraft and Palm Beach in New Ulm, and most recently as a cook at Tri Lakes Road House in Cormorant near Detroit Lakes until his hospitalization in May 2015.
Brian had a lot of passions and hobbies in his life including electronics, reading, hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening, and being outdoors. During high school he enjoyed acting in plays, played soccer, and joined the Civil Air Patrol.  He spent part of one summer doing missionary work in Detroit. From a young age, Brian was a highly intelligent, electronically inclined, gifted young man.  It seemed as though anything he tried to do, he would excel at.
He was a friend to many, especially those in need of a friend. What gave Brian the most enjoyment in the last years of his life was working with his hands in his gardens.  He loved to make things grow; especially unique plants.  What Brian loved the most in life was his son Gunnar, his family and the love and support they gave him over the years.  He will be deeply missed by all of those that knew him, but his memory will stay in their hearts forever.
