Charles "CJ" Kirkwood Obituary

Charles “CJ” Kirkwood, 88, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center.
    He was born in Lake Township, Wabasha County on Oct. 1, 1928 to George and Emma (Dammon) Kirkwood.
    Charles grew up in the Lake City area.  He served in the Army as a MP in Austria.  He was discharged in 1948 and returned to Lake City.  He then worked at Gillett and Eaton Foundry in Lake City as a tool and die machinist.  On July 5, 1952, he married Katherine Sprick at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City.  He retired from Federal-Mogul in 1991.  Charles was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a life member of VFW Post 8729. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and most of all, spending time with his family.
    He is survived by his wife, Katherine of Lake City; four children, Sandra Turner of Montgomery, Texas, Joe (Barb) Kirkwood of Lake City, Jane (Ted) Hagberg of Woodbury and John (Sheila) Kirkwood of Lake City; five grandchildren, Paul (Jessie) Turner, Kelly Turner, Jeff (Tracy) Halverson, Ted (Amanda) Hagberg, and Katie Hagberg; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marcy Olmstead of Orange, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Bob; and two sisters, Mickey Kirtz and infant sister, Jean Kirkwood.
    A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Dan Reich officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 16, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Military honors will be handled by VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110 of Lake City. Online condolences can be sent to www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
