Darroll Day obituary

Darroll John Day, 81, of Lake City, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Darroll was born July 5, 1941, the son of Carroll C. and Arline M. (Mathison) Day in Mason City, Iowa. He married the love of his life Paula Apka on May 6, 1967 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Darroll graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1959. He then went to work on his uncle’s farm; he was a hard worker and enjoyed the outside time. Fishing was his favorite hobby, as well as spending time with family and friends. After leaving the farm, Darroll took on the industry business at Winnebego, Gering, as well as Valley Craft Industries. He wore many hats and was good at what he did. He retired in 2002.
He moved to Lake City, Minn. in 1981 with his family to be closer to the lake. Camping and fishing were something that always brought a smile to Darroll’s face and if he was not working hard in the garden, or around the house to keep it looking good you would find him and his family out in the boat catching some fish.
Darroll is survived by his wife Paula Day; children Brooke (Jarod) Barton of Lake City, Sherri (Brad) Haugland of Forest City, Iowa as well as son Doug Fredrickson in Forest City, Iowa. Step-children Jeff (Tracy) Spear of Hampton, Iowa, and Jody (Kelly) Spear of Manly, Iowa; siblings twin brother Carroll Day of Gladbrook, Iowa, Deb (AJ) Abplanalp of Clear Lake, Iowa, Sue (Larry) Bloechl of Menasha, Wis. and Greg (Deb) Day of Cresco, Iowa; as well as 12 amazing grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
Darroll is proceeded in death by both parents Carroll and Arline Day; daughter Shannon (Day) Austin; sibling Paul Day; and his brother-in-laws Wayne (Sandy) Johnston,  David (Sharon) Schroeder, as well as Frank (Kandy) Blondin.
