Dennis Nelson obituary

    Dennis Jay Nelson, age 72 of Lake City Minn. passed away at Gundersen Lutheran hospital in LaCrosse, Wis. on September 16, 2022.
    Dennis was born on May 3, 1950 in Albert Lea, Minn. to Vernon and Pearl Nelson.
    Dennis graduated from Hastings High School in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and served three years.
    He married Beverly Sabin in July 1973 and moved to Oronoco, Minn. where they raised their two children. They later divorced. He married Teresa (Hielscher) Gerken in 1999 and later divorced.
    Dennis worked at Crenlo in Rochester, Minn. as a welder and a machine operator. He was a proud UAW member and retired in good standing. He was a member of the Pine Island American Legion.
    Dennis loved hunting and fishing and spending time at Treasure Island playing bingo when he had a little extra cash. He liked riding motorcycle and attending AA meetings. He recently celebrated 30 years of sobriety.
    He loved keeping track of grandchildren activities and also talking on the phone.
    He is survived by his son, Roger (Diane) Nelson of Zumbrota, and daughter Tina (Matt) Katusky of Alden; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (Maureen) Nelson of Saint Paul and Cliff (Kathy) Michaelis of Shakopee; sister-in-law Judy Nelson of Hastings, and one sister, Diane Calderon of Fairborn, Ohio.
    He is preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Nelson, brother Gary Nelson, and his parents Pearl and Vernon Nelson
    Celebration Of Life will be held October 1, 2022 at his son’s home in Zumbrota from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., 15287 445th St., Zumbrota, Minn.
