Donald Voigt Obituary

Donald Arthur Arnold Voigt was called to his heavenly home on March 8, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center.  
    He was born May 11, 1936 to Walter and Alma (Graese) Voigt, in Hutchinson, Minn.  He was baptized and confirmed by his father. He attended Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minn.  Senior year he contracted polio and received his GED from American School in Illinois in 1955.
    He was united in marriage to Edith Bremer on June 3, 1956 by his father at Immanuel Lutheran West Florence. They were blessed with two adopted daughters, Karla (Ralph) Borchardt and Lorie Voigt.
    Don taught Sunday School for nine years at Immanuel West Florence, and in 1965 he joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City where he was an active member. He served on the church council, ushered and sang in several choirs.  Don also served on the Lake City Ambulance Commission, and worked as a bulk oil dealer for Skelly Oil company for 25 years.  Before his retirement, he was employed at Federal-Mogul in Lake City.  
    Don is survived by his wife, Edith “Ede”, of Lake City; daughters, Karla (Ralph) Borchardt of Duluth and Lorie Voigt of Lake City; grandchildren, Zachary (Rachael), Luke (Hannah), Kyra (Tyler) Jusczak and Lisa Borchardt, all in Duluth, Kourtney Ellingson of La Crosse, Wis.; step-granddaughters, Taylor Schueller of La Crosse and Cameron Schueller of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Audrey Borchardt and Troy Jusczak of Duluth; brothers, Ade (Ramona) Voigt of Beaver Dam, Wis. and Gerhardt Voigt of Princeton, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wally Voigt.
    Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Paul Otto officiating.  Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake City.  Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 10 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Video Fund.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
