Garry Meyers Obituary

Garry E. Meyers was born on Oct. 4, 1949.  He died at his home in Stillwater, Minn. on April 30, 2016 from a sudden heart attack.
    Garry is survived by his wife, Lori (Gerken) Meyers; daughters, Molly Greenlee (Julie Greenlee), of McDonough, Ga. and Megan Meyers of Stillwater; sons, Matt Meyers of Hinesville, Ga. and Jake Meyers (Ashley Meyers) of Roberts, Wis.; grandchildren, Colton Greenlee, Millie Kate Greenlee and Lincoln Meyers; sisters, Sharon Schmalbeck of Belmond Iowa, Darlene Thomas of Marshalltown, Iowa and Joyce Brown (Roger) of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Minnie Meyers of Belmond, Iowa and his stillborn daughter, Amanda Marie Meyers.
    Garry served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Germany from 1969-1971. He became a truck driver and drove for General Mills, Conoco and American Truck Lines. With his wife Lori, he became an owner/operator that leased to companies including Bud Meyer and D&T Truck Lines in Minnesota.  In 2010 he got his own authority and created St. Croix Valley Express hauling refrigerated goods throughout the country.
    Garry greatly enjoyed running, hiking, reading, boating and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
    He retired from trucking in January 2016 and was adjusting to life off road at home in Stillwater.  He returned from a bike ride on a beautiful morning on April 30 and died suddenly at home.
    Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Salem Lutheran Church, 14940 62nd Street N, Stillwater. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave N, Stillwater and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
