Gene Anding Obituary

Gene Sylvester Anding, 78, of Rochester, died with his caring family surrounding him on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at his home in Rochester.  He had been under hospice care.
Gene was born Feb. 20, 1939 in Lake City to Sylvester and Laniea (Manthei) Anding.  Raised on the family farm near Zumbro Falls, Gene was a graduate of Mazeppa High School with the class of 1957.  He then attended University of Minnesota for a year.  On May 10, 1959, at the United Methodist Church in Douglas, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Carol Spading. Gene continued the family farming operation and then worked for Crenlo in Rochester for 36 years, retiring in 2004.  He loved playing bingo, attending tractor pulls, his grandkids’ sporting events and school activities, and being outdoors. Gene’s door was open to anyone.  He was a gentle, caring man, and he loved his family deeply.  He was a member of the Saint John’s and Bear Valley Lutheran Churches of Mazeppa.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Gene Anding of Rochester, daughter, Julie Kay (Mark) Dean of Rochester, and son, Jerry Allen (Tamela) Anding of Eyota; grandchildren, Alissa Dean, Tyler Dean, Cord Anding, Collin Anding, and Crystal Rose Anding. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary, in 2009, and a brother, Glen Anding.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. The Rev. Alan Horn will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Mazeppa Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home in Rochester, and the visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to Bear Valley Lutheran Church or to Mayo Hospice.
Online tributes are being welcomed, and may be written at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
