Gene Schumann obituary

Gene Edward Schumann, 88, of Lake City, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Elysian Senior Living in Lake City.
Gene was born on February 1, 1938, in Lake City, Minnesota to Harry and Esther (Fick) Schumann. He grew up attending rural country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. Gene served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era from October 15, 1961 to August 14, 1962. Gene returned to the family farm after his honorable discharge and took over his father’s farm. He also drove school bus for over 20 years.
Gene was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City. He also was very active in his community as a member of the Lake City Sportsman’s Club, Wabasha County Cattlemen’s Association, the Lake City American Legion Post 110, and Pheasants Forever.
Gene is survived by his life partner, Ilene Blanche of Rochester; a sister, Marcene VanMinsel; and a brother Freddie. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ardell and Kenneth; and a sister Marlys.
The funeral service for Gene will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Steven Frentz officiating. Burial will follow the service in Bethany Cemetery in Lake City with military honors by the Lake City American Legion Post 110 and the Lake City VFW Post 8729. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
