Hilda Braatz Obituary

Hilda M. Braatz, 92, of Lake City, formerly of Wabasha, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.  
    She was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Randall, Minn., one of nine children born to August and Henrietta (Claymont) Mohr.  She married Clifford Braatz Nov. 4, 1939 in St. Paul.  The couple lived in Minneapolis before moving to rural Wabasha in 1956.  Clifford was a well driller in Minneapolis and a self-employed well driller in Wabasha.  He also was a boiler engineer for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Wabasha.  Hilda was a homemaker and she worked 40 years as a nurse's aide at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Nursing Home.  Mr. Braatz died Sept. 8, 2003.
    She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City.  She loved growing flowers in her gardens, feeding and watching the birds, crocheting and knitting and the outdoors.  She also loved making her delicious chocolate chip cookies for her family and many friends.
    Hilda is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Louis) Gluesen, Lake City; two sons, Roger (Jean) Braatz and Russell (Denise) Braatz, both of Oak Center; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, one great-grandson, two brothers and six sisters.
    The funeral was Tuesday, July 28, 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City with the Rev. Doctor Scott Fiege officiating.  Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha.  Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Community Development Fund, 1200 5th Grant Blvd. W. Wabasha, MN  55981.
