Janette Lubahn obituary
Janette H. Lubahn, 85, a longtime Stewartville, Minn, resident died on Sunday, November 26, 2023, after struggling with Parkinson’s Disease for many years, at The Waters on Mayowood in Rochester, Minn., where she had been a resident for four years.
Janette Hazel Asleson was born on November 28, 1937 in Lake City, Minn. to Edgar and Agnes (Wiebusch) Asleson. She grew up on a farm in rural Lake City, Minn., attended country schools, later graduating from Lake City H.S. in 1955. After graduating she was employed at the Olmsted County Court House in Rochester.
Janette was married on April 12, 1958 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City to Roger K. Lubahn. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester where they raised their family and made their home before moving to a farm near the Rochester Airport in 1966. Jan was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and later started her own business, Jan’s Costume Creations, which she operated for nearly 30 years. Roger was employed in construction with Hoaglan Builders. When they sold the farm in 1991, Roger built a house with Jan’s costume shop attached, in Stewartville across from the bowling alley. Mr. Lubahn died on March 22, 2007.
Jan was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville where she was involved in teaching Sunday School, quilting, and other activities. Jan enjoyed gardening, square dancing, volunteering with the Stewartville Care Center, playing piano, and was in the Sweet Adelines for many years. She was active in 4-H as a youth, and helped start the Interstate Hi-Flyers 4-H Club in rural Stewartville and was a member of the Stewartville Chamber of Commerce. Jan enjoyed her Norwegian heritage and would make large batches of lefse to share with friends and family during the Christmas season. She enjoyed time spent with neighbors and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her sons – Steve (Gail) Lubahn of Oakdale, Minn.; Kenneth (Bev) Lubahn of Wykoff, Minn. and Brian Lubahn of Rochester. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kelli (Derek) Elliott, Luke (Paige) Lubahn and Kathy (Joey) Walton and two great grandchildren - Ryan and Hazel. She is survived by a sister Elaine Mulder and brother Eugene (Bev) Asleson, both of Lake City, Minn. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband – Roger, her parents, and brothers – Luverne Asleson and Harold Asleson.
The memorial service for Jan will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
