John Burfeind Obituary

John A. Burfeind, 81, of Lake City and formerly of Wabasha, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center.  John was born May 19, 1935 to Edward J. and Frances (Lichtblau) Burfeind in Lake City.  He attended rural Wabasha County schools.
    John was employed by Hassler-Hermann Implement Company in Lake City in the early 1950’s and then worked for Hinck Color Center until 1958.  He then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.  After he returned from the service he farmed for one year, and then was called up to serve again from 1961 to 1962 during the Berlin Wall call-up.  After John returned to Lake City he was employed by Willers Construction from 1963 to 1997 when he retired.
    John was a former commander of the Lake City American Legion Post 110. In 1997 when John moved to Wabasha he became very active in the Wabasha American Legion Post 50, he served a term as commander, and served on the board of directors for many years.  John was also vice-commander of the District 1 American Legion.  John loved to spend time in his garden, liked to do building projects, and was a ‘Mr. Fix-it’ for friends and neighbors.
    John is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Raymond of Rochester; one sister, Kathy Burfeind of Lake City; four brothers, James (Helen) Burfeind of Wabasha, Harold (Barbara) Burfeind of Lake City, Frederick (Cheryl) Burfeind of Grand Rapids, Minn.and Edward W. (Judy) Burfeind of Lake City; and his former wife, Darlene Hubbard of Lake City.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, two brothers, Dallas and Elward, and two sisters, Bertha, and Amelia.
    No services have been planned at this time. His urn will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
