Lois Kennedy Obituary
The funeral service for Lois C. Kennedy was Monday, June 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln, rural Lake City with Pastor Dan Reich officiating. Burial followed the service with Military Rites by the Millville Valley American Legion Post 579 at the Pleasant Prairie Dale Cemetery in rural Zumbro Falls.
Mrs. Kennedy, 91, of Millville, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.
Lois Clara Heins was born Aug. 24, 1925 in Gillford Township, Wabasha County, to John and Clara (Luhmann) Heins. She attended a one room country school through the eighth grade and then attended Lincoln High School in Lake City, graduating in 1942. Lois then joined the Cadet Nurse Corp. from 1944 to 1947, graduating from St. Mary’s Nursing School in 1947. On June 3, 1948 she married Donald Kennedy at Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln in rural Lake City. They had two children, Michael and Patricia.
Lois lived most of her life in the Zumbro Falls and Rochester area. The Kennedy’s farmed in rural Zumbro Falls for many years and Lois worked as a surgical nurse in orthopedics at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester for many years. In May 2012 Lois moved to Millville. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln, was very active in the Ladies Aid, and played the church organ for many years. She loved to spend time reading and enjoyed doing needlework. Lois was also a member of the Millville Valley Legion Post 579.
She is survived by her two children, Michael (Barb) Kennedy of Zumbro Falls and Pat (David) Appel of Millville; five grandchildren, Shawn Kennedy Lee, Scott Kennedy, Paul J. Appel, Lyrene Appel Huey and Joseph Appel; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Avis, husband Donald, three sisters, two brothers, a stepsister, three nephews, and one great-grandson Lance.
