Lynn Cliff obituary
Lynn Carol Cliff, 77, of Zumbrota and formerly of Zumbro Falls, passed away on Sunday evening, January 2, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. She was born in Lake City, Minn. on May 13, 1944, the second of the seven children born to Max and Myrtle (Atkinson) Cliff. Lynn grew up in the Zumbro Falls area attending Country School District 73, and then went to Mazeppa Public School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1962. After high school she continued her education at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minneapolis completing a one year program to become a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT). After graduation she worked as an MLT in Gillette Wyoming for a time, but for the most part lived in the Zumbro Falls and Mazeppa areas.
Lynn worked in Senior Care for several years. A significant part of her work life was also spent as a waitperson. She enjoyed this type of hospitality work and the friendships she had as part of “the crew”, first at Sandy Point Supper Club and then at Fisherman’s Inn, retiring in 2017. Lynn wouldn’t have minded living without a credit card, but she most definitely could not live without a library card. She was a voracious reader, and no day was complete without spending some time in a book. When she was not working or reading or tending a flower bed, she was spending time with friends which she counted as many and held dear. Hers was a servant heart and she would offer to help most anyone in whatever way she could. She is the only reason that our family plots at the cemetery have nice pots of flowers by their gravesides. Our plots will all be the poorer for her passing. She also enjoyed art, dabbling in drawing, jewelry making and other creative ventures. When the opportunity presented itself, she loved to travel and along with friends and family spent time in Arizona, New Mexico, California, Hawaii, Missouri and beautiful western Canada.
She is survived by her sister, Julie (Eric) Cliff-Porcher of Rochester; and a brother, Charles (Raneé) Cliff of Lake City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Gary, Tom, and Jim, a sister, Virginia, and one niece Emily Porcher.
A graveside service will be held April 23 at 11 a.m. at the Mazeppa Cemetery in Mazeppa. Please mark the date and plan to join us. Lunch will be served at the Mazeppa Community Center after the service where we hope to share some of our memories of Lynn.
