Marilee Hinck obit
On Saturday evening, June 27, 2026, Marilee Ann Hinck of Lake City left her earthly life for her eternal heavenly home. She was 96 and living at Elysian Senior Homes. Marilee leaves behind a legacy of love that will remain in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.
Marilee was born on May 7, 1930, in Goodhue County to Lawrence and Ann (Hedeman) Martens. She was baptized on June 1, 1930, and confirmed on May 21, 1944, at the German Lutheran Church in Milaca, Minn. Marilee attended grade school in rural Goodhue and rural Mille Lacs County. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1947. In her teenage years, Marilee and her two sisters sang together for weddings and other functions. They also sang on KROC Radio in Rochester for Sears and Roebuck.
Marilee married Herbert Hinck on June 10, 1949. They were married for 65 years.
Marilee’s professional accomplishments centered around her unwavering devotion to Herbert, working hand-in-hand together to build their businesses and provide for their family. With a strong spirit and a servant’s heart, she spent her career supporting Herbert’s entrepreneurial ventures in various roles ranging from accountant to business manager, whatever role was needed of her. Over the years they operated Hinck Color Center, The Hitchin’ Post, and Business Brokers and Assoc. Herbert also built many homes over the years and Marilee was always behind the scenes, managing whatever tasks were necessary to make it a success. She finished her career working for her son Bryce, at Bryce Floorcovering, and retired at the tender age of 76.
Marilee deeply loved her family, Lake City, and the wonderful group of friends she was blessed with over the course of her life. She found great joy in going out to dinner, celebrating holidays and special occasions with her family, and daily gatherings at one of her many coffee spots. Marilee will be fondly remembered for her flair for fashion, always looking perfectly put together from her beautiful grey hair to her matching shoes, purse, belt, and jewelry.
Marilee’s strong faith was evident in the life she lived and the love she leaves behind on this earth. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served her congregation on the Altar Guild in various roles for 40 years.
Marilee is survived by her sons, Bob (Renee) Hinck, Bryce (Kathy) Hinck and her daughter, Dawn (Tom) Balow, all of Lake City; seven grandchildren: Tyler (Angie) Hinck, Jessica Hinck, Ben Hinck, Abbey (Derek) Stripling, Maggie (Taylor) Johnson, Will (Madison) Balow, and Max Balow; six great-grandchildren: Joe Hinck, and Bennett, Buck, Cameron, Tate, and Elsie Stripling; sister, Phyllis Hinck; sister-in-law, Geri Hinck; and many special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herbert Hinck; her parents, Lawrence and Anna (Hedeman) Martens; her sister and brother-in-law, Marlis and Arbye Agenter; brother/sister-in-laws: Harris Hinck, Gordy Hinck, Bernie and Lois Hinck, Phyllis and Walt Krueger, Angie and Albert Dittfach.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Pastor Daniel Reich officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson – Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
