Mildred Getschmann obituary

Mildred “Millie” Getschmann, 95 of Wabasha, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Gundersen – St Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha.
    Millie was born July 29, 1926, in Augusta, Maine to Richard and Helen (Butler) Gibson.  She was married to Richard Thornton and they had six children. After his death, she later married Otto Getschmann on November 5, 1960, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, West Albany, Minn. and he passed away in 2012.  She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha.  Millie was a long time bartender at the Wabasha VFW and the Nelson Hotel.
    She is survived by her children: James (Frances) Thornton, Mountain Home, Idaho; Arthur “Jack” (Pat) Thornton, Columbia Heights, Minn.; Delores “Dori” Bales, Wabasha, Minn.; and Sue (Joel) Ernst, Alma, Wis.; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; some great great grandchildren and other relatives.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: Richard Thornton and Otto Getschmann; a daughter Mary Jensen; a son Walter Thornton; two granddaughters: Carly Wilson and Rachel Thornton Zomak; a grandson Richard Bignell; a sister Rowena Trip; and two brothers: Richard Gibson and Kenneth Smith
    A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 23 at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.
    Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha and one hour before the mass at the church.
