Nicholas Arendt obituary
Nicholas (Nick) Arendt, of Lake City passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Elysian Fields in Red Wing, after suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.
Nick was born in Red Wing, Minn. on February 24, 1942, to the late Lawrence and Helen (Diercks) Arendt. He lived in the rural Bellechester area until he was nine and then moved to New Hampton, Iowa. He enjoyed playing sports and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1960. He attended Northern Iowa Teachers College. He moved with his family back to the Bellechester area in 1964. He was employed as a machinist at DiAcro in Lake City, Intek in Hastings and then enjoyed working at Acrotech in Lake City, until retiring in February of 2011.
Nick was married to his loving wife, Lynda, for over 51 years and together they had three sons, Nicholas of Waterloo, Iowa; Brian (Brianne) of Albert Lea; and Aaron (Christy) of Cottage Grove. He was blessed with two grandsons, Cameron and Tyler and one granddaughter, Blake.
Nick was a “nice guy” in every way. He was a kind, patient, supportive and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed reading and would spend countless hours reading with his sons and grandchildren growing up. He also enjoyed sports, music (especially blues), cars, hanging out in his garage, spending time with his wife and family and visiting nephews at the family farm. Nick was also a member of the Lakesters Car Club and enjoyed cruising with them.
He is survived by his wife; sons; daughters-in-law; grandchildren; and a sister, Rosemary Sheumaker of Garland, Texas; a brother-in-law Ron (Margaret) Wagner; sister-in-law Mary (Dick) Omdahl; eleven nephews and fifteen nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil (Rita), Gerald (Elsie), and Tom; a brother-in-law, Richard Sheumaker; and brothers-in-law Robert and Gerald Wagner.
The Funeral Mass for Nick will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father James Russell officiating. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will follow the service at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Cemetery in Lake City. Celebration of Life and luncheon will follow from 12:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lake City Sportsman’s Club.
