Robert “Bob” James Majerus, 69, of Lake City, Minnesota, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2026. He was born October 25, 1956, and spent his entire life in the community he loved — Lake City, where he was known for his gentle ways, his patience, his quiet humor, and his deep devotion to family, friends, and the natural world.
Bob grew up in Lake City, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1976. He went on to complete the Industrial Machine Mechanics program at Red Wing Vocational Technical College, a trade that would become the foundation of a proud 35-year career as a maintenance mechanic at Federal Mogul.
On August 8, 1981, Bob married his best friend and lifelong partner, Kathleen (Buch) Majerus, beginning a marriage of nearly 45 years built on love, laughter, and life fully shared. Together they enjoyed traveling and savored the simple pleasures that meant the most — evenings around a backyard campfire with cherished neighbors and friends, and the annual fishing trips to northern Minnesota that became a beloved tradition. Those getaways forged lasting bonds and friendships that deepened year after year around the water’s edge.
Bob was a man of the outdoors through and through. He believed deeply in the importance of teaching children to appreciate the natural world, and he lived that belief every day. His greatest joy was hunting and fishing alongside his son, Nick — a passion Nick carries forward in his father’s honor. Bob was an Eagle Scout and served many years as a Scoutmaster, guiding Nick to that same proud achievement.
A certified scuba diver since his late teens, Bob shared a spirit of underwater adventure with his twin brother, Bill. The two explored lakes, rivers, and open waters across the Midwest, Canada, and Mexico. For many years he also put his diving skills to practical use on Lake Pepin, performing salvage work for local businesses, individuals, and law enforcement.
Those who knew Bob remember him as a kind and gentle soul — patient, compassionate, and good. He had a natural gift with children and a warm sense of humor that put everyone at ease. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Lake City Sportsman’s Club.
In his final days, Bob had one thing on his mind: his soon-to-arrive granddaughter. He was counting down the days, full of anticipation and joy, eager to hold her and welcome her into the world. She arrived on April 1, 2026 — just days after he left it — and she will grow up knowing how deeply she was loved and awaited by the grandfather she never got to meet.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Kathie; his son, Nick Majerus, daughter-in-law, Katie, and granddaughter, Lindy Jane, of Lake City; his twin brother, Bill Majerus, and sister-in-law, Susan, of St. Paul; and a large and loving extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Alice (Laqua) Majerus.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Bob at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at First Lutheran Church, in Lake City with Pastor Kary Jonas officiating. Friends and family may visit from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Lake City Sportsman’s Club, where all are welcome to share stories and memories of Bob. Interment of ashes will be held privately at a later date at the First Lutheran Church Columbarium.
Memorial gifts are preferred to First Lutheran Church or the Lake City Sportsman’s Club.
