Sylvester Shones obituary

Sylvester Joseph Shones, 95, of Millville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. He was born May 2, 1925 in Millville, and attended Funk’s Rural Wabasha County School. On June 16, 1948 he married Betty Plank at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview.
While farming Sylvester worked at Patterson Quarries at St. Charles, and also worked in Rochester on the Mayo Clinic Building and Assisi Heights. He farmed in the West Albany area until 1959. Sylvester also owned and operated the Millville Feed Mill until his death. He enjoyed going fishing on the Zumbro River and catching catfish. Sylvester loved spending time playing cribbage and other card games, and enjoyed traveling with his family. Sylvester loved and took much pride in his 1929 fully restored Ford Model A. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – West Albany in rural Millville.
Sylvester is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty Shones of Millville; a daughter, Kathleen “Sis” (Dan) Wolfe of Owatonna; five sons, Larry (Sue) Shones of Millville, Eugene (Carol) Shones of Lake City, Danny (Pam) Shones of Elgin, Roger Shones of Millville, and Andy (Holly) Shones of Plainview; fifteen grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Diane Sommerfield of Pine Island.
A private family funeral mass due to COVID-19 restrictions, was held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – West Albany in rural Millville, with Father Matthew Fasnacht officiating.  Burial followed the funeral mass in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery – West Albany.
