Vera Shones obituary

    Vera Kathryn Shones, 87, of Lake City and formerly of Millville, passed away on Saturday morning, April 3, 2021 at Mayo Clinic – Lake City Care Center in Lake City. She was born March 1, 1934 in Whitewater Township, Winona County, to Edwin and Emma (Prowatchke) Harmon. During her elementary years in school she attended rural Winona County Schools and then Plainview High School graduating in 1954.  On March 17, 1955 she married Leroy Shones at Trinity Lutheran Church – Bremen in rural Millville.
    After their marriage they lived in Millville and raised their family. Vera was employed as a Nursing Assistant for many years. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Millville. Vera enjoyed going to garage sales, reading, sewing, and going on road trip vacations. She especially loved spending time with her family. In 2013 Vera moved to Lake City.
    Vera is survived by her eight children, Connie Salgy of Lake City, Vickie (Randy) Hoekstra of Lewiston, Dawn (Jim) Danckwart of Lake City, Carol (David) Hobbs of Millville, and Shelly (Terry) Kopp of Lake City, Glenn (Dawn) Shones of Plainview, Scott (Katie) Shones of Hammond, and Bruce Shones of Millville; 27 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leroy on Oct. 9, 2008, three sisters, three brothers, son-in-law, Randy Salgy, and a granddaughter, Stacy Kathryn Siewert.
    A walk-through visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 7, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church. The funeral service will be on Thursday, April 8 at 1 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ in Millville with Pastor Ana Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Millville Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required at all services.
