Virginia Steffenhagen Obituary
The memorial service for Virginia L. Steffenhagen will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frontenac, with Pastor Stephen Kurtzahn officiating. Burial will follow the service at Frontenac Cemetery in Old Frontenac.
Mrs. Steffenhagen, 88, of Lake City, and formerly of Red Wing, and Frontenac, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center in Lake City.
Virginia Louise Shephard was born Sept. 22, 1928 in Wabash, Ind. to Francis and Helen (Shipley) Shephard. She attended school in Red Wing. On June 2, 1945 she married Donald F. Steffenhagen at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frontenac.
Virginia lived the majority of her life in Old Frontenac, and worked at the Red Wing Pottery in Red Wing as a painter. She also was employed by Berlin’s Café in Frontenac. After her retirement she moved to the Jordan Towers in Red Wing where she lived for nine years. In July 2013 she moved to Lake City. Virginia enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, going camping and dancing, she loved music and spending time with her friends.
Virginia is survived by her children, Sharron Meincke of Lake City, Jean (Dwight) Dankers, Ted Steffenhagen and Helen (Daniel) Wurst, all of Old Frontenac, and Daniel Steffenhagen of Lake City; 11 grandchildren, Jerry, Craig, John, Sara, Anne, Katie, Brian, Jolie, Mark, Luke, and Noah; 16 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Collen Borgschatz of Red Wing; and sister-in-law, Darlene Odden of Old Frontenac. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Helen Shephard; husband Donald; and three brothers, Cecil, Bob, and Victor.
Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. on Thursday until the time of service at the church.
