‘Tis the season for... wild mushrooms?
For obvious reasons, December in Minnesota is not a field month for students of wild mushrooms. But we can’t resist writing about this one, which you may recognize as a major motif in European Christmas tableaus – the spotted bright red fly agaric (Amanita muscaria). They’re usually found well north of here (orange and yellow ones are common in northern Minnesota), or in the Pacific Northwest or Europe. This one was found this fall, in Frontenac State Park, by our park manager Jake Gaster, who snapped this photo.
