Tom Heffernan served as a military police officer in South Korea in 1955, shortly after an armistice brought open warfare to to a close on the Korean Peninsula.
He told his wife, Marie, that he thought he’d never return.
But after some online investigation, Marie discovered a program offered by the South Korean government to bring servicemembers stationed there during and shortly after the war back to the country to visit monuments and to allow the country to express its gratitude for their service.
